SRT Learning Centre
SRTLC is a safe place where children can learn, read, write, and play without the societal barriers of class and privilege. We particularly encourage school dropouts to attend our center daily, offering them not only education but also the opportunity to learn at their own pace.
Suresh Rasiklal Thakore (SRT) Learning Centre
The SRT Learning Centre is dedicated to provide hope and opportunity for the children and adolescents of Rapar who have prematurely exited the formal education system. Embracing a comprehensive approach to education and empowerment, the centre provides a nurturing environment and supports learning, exploration, and growth. Here, children and adolescents find refuge from the limitations of their economic and social circumstances, gaining access to invaluable resources and opportunities previously beyond their reach. We provide books, stationery, computers, and games to play during their spare time.
Who was Suresh Thakore?
Suresh Thakore, founder member of ISAR, was a computer scientist from Gujarat and student of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. He was also founder president of the computer society of India and the founder of Gujarat Science Academy. He worked as a controller at ISRO and collaborated with Dr. Sarabhai, Dr. Yashpal and Dr. Abdul Kalam.
At the heart of the SRT Learning Centre’s ethos lies a commitment to inclusivity and diversity. We welcome individuals from diverse social and economic backgrounds, as it fosters a sense of unity and camaraderie among children. At SRTLC, there are no barriers of class and privilege, but a mix of different experiences and perspectives.
Beyond the traditional realms of academia, the centre serves as a hub for the learning of essential life skills. Through our programs and interactive workshops, participants are equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of their increasingly modern life with confidence and resilience. From language and mathematical literacy and computer proficiency to interpersonal communication and critical thinking, our approach aims to empower individuals with the skills needed to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
Moreover, the SRT Learning Centre recognizes the transformative power of play in fostering holistic development. Thus, in addition to structured learning activities, ample opportunities are provided for recreational pursuits and creative expression. In essence, the SRT Learning Centre serves as a catalyst for change, empowering marginalized children and adolescents to transcend the limitations of their circumstances and realize their full potential. We are committed to work towards a brighter future for all who pass through the doors of SRT Learning Centre…
