Projects & Campaigns

For over three decades, ISAR has undertaken numerous projects and campaigns to end domestic violence and address issues related to women and children in Gujarat. Our strategic approach categorizes projects into three areas: resource development, empowerment, and catalyzing behavior change.

ISAR directs its efforts along three strategic fronts

  • Catalyzing Behavior Change through Community Engagement (CaBCCE)
  • Development of Resources and Training Tools (DeReTT)
  • Empowering Adolescents and Ensuring Child Protection through Gender-Transformative Approaches (EEGTA)

Catalyzing Behavior Change through Community Engagement (CaBCCE):

ISAR is deeply committed to fostering behavioral shifts within communities, facilitated by systematic engagement initiatives. Our approach involves consistent interaction with local communities, government entities, and academic institutions through meticulously organized training programs and awareness campaigns. Collaborating extensively with government departments including the Gujarat State Police, Sarv Siksha Abhiyan, Rashtriya Madhamik Shiksha Abhiyan, Govt. Girls Hostels, Department of Women and Child Development, Health Department, and Social Justice and Empowerment Department, ISAR has conducted a series of gender and life-skills training programs with government officials and university students.

Moreover, ISAR has taken its mission to the grassroots level, by conducting numerous training and awareness programs, with over 7,000 women and 4,500 adolescents in the Kutch and Banaskantha districts of Gujarat. These programs have addressed critical topics such as domestic violence, suicide prevention, combating child marriage, challenging societal norms, addressing gender disparities, and imparting essential life skills.

All our projects are augmented by collaborations with both national and international organizations, including Oxfam India, UNICEF India, Action Aid, International Centre for Research on Women, Centre for Social Research, Human Rights Law Network, and the Government of Gujarat.

Empowering Adolescents and Ensuring Child Protection through Gender-Transformative Approaches (EEGTA)

ISAR has been a key partner with UNICEF-Gujarat in launching a collaborative program in Rapar, Kutch. Together, we aim to empower adolescents through a gender-transformative approach. This initiative is dedicated to fostering positive change by addressing issues of patriarchy, promoting gender responsiveness, and cultivating gender-friendly school environments within the community. Our program’s primary objectives include: 1/promoting gender responsiveness throughout various spheres of society, 2/ building the capacities of frontline workers to effectively address gender-related challenges, and 3/ enhancing the participation of women in the development planning processes of villages. Through these concerted efforts, we aim to create a more inclusive and equitable environment that nurtures the growth and well-being of adolescents while safeguarding their rights.

Development of Resources and Training Tools (DeReTT)

In partnership with UNICEF, ISAR has worked on several instrumental tools:

        – “Meena ki Duniya”: A radio show tailored for primary school educators, designed to enhance their capacity as trainers in gender equality and life skills.

        – “Samjan”: A comprehensive training module aimed at adolescents, facilitating discussions on crucial topics such as child marriage, gender sensitivity, domestic violence, and empowerment.

        – Training modules for mothers: These resources delve into topics including child marriage, gender issues, violence prevention, and human rights.

        – “Master Trainer’s Gender Resource Pool”: A comprehensive module designed for conducting gender sensitivity training sessions with diverse stakeholders.

        – “Umang”: An innovative module catering to higher primary school teachers in Madhya Pradesh, India, empowering them to deliver effective life skills and gender training to their students
