About ISAR

Institute for Social Action and Research, ISAR is Ahmedabad based NGO working across Gujarat, committed for social upliftment. The journey of ISAR began with the rehabilitation efforts during an unfortunate 1990 Communal riots of Ahmedabad. It was a nightmare for the people of Vejalpur area where about 23 houses were totally burnt, 73 people were injured and 11 people lost their lives. At the time of relief and rehabilitation work, a need of a long term commitment for the social development was felt and ISAR was born out of this concern.

ISAR believes that generating scientific attitude among people specially women and children can help to change the traditional society into modern one. In order to accelerate these activities on institutional basis it was necessary to register our organization under the Trust Act. ISAR was registered as a Trust in 1991. Our strong community linkages and action based programs have taken ISAR at the level of people’s movement rather than narrowing down itself to a rule bound strict organization.

For the last twenty five years ISAR Trust has been actively working in the field social development among women and children, gender issues with right based and empowerment approach, gender sensitization, environmental issues and now it has also extended its area of work for developing scientific attitudes in the society. As far as gender related issues are concerned we have adopted two ways strategy viz. Changing the attitudes of the society and another upliftment of women and Adolescents .

The Institute for Social Action and Research is registered under the Bombay public Trust Act 1950. Registration no. of the Trust E/8635/ Ahmedabad.23/11/1991.
